Yup, I was making pretty good progress earlier this year back when I was landscapping and then doing construction. All the physical exercise was paying dividends and my abs where as visible as they had ever been, still no 6 pack though.
Then I quit commercial carpentry because it was fucked and decided to go full time developer on my computer, for the rest of the summer I sat in chairs and plugged away at my computer, I built a few websites but didn’t make a dollar.
While sitting in Starbucks coffee shops and public library my manual labour gains faded into a bit of pudge. My legs and hips got stiff and I got sick of sitting in a chair.
Now I am full time into penny stocking, mostly learning at this point but I fully expect to spend 8 to 10 hours in front of my computer every day through out the winter.
So how will I get seriously athletically jacked during this period of time?
For one, surf season is underway so I intend to go surfing at least once a week, I always get fitter during surf season.
#2) I have given up sitting for standing. I bought a fancy Ergotron sit-stand module for my desk off Used Victoria for $125 (retails for about $600). But even before that I turned my desk into a standing desk by putting my laptop on top of a cardboard box on my desk. They say sitting is the new smoking, except you don’t get any kind of buzz from it, your just constantly tired. If I am going to do something detrimental to my health I at least want to get some sort of enjoyment out of it, so I’ll just stand. Half the time I stretch while watching penny stocking lessons or stand on my foam roller which improves my balance for surfing, so it’s a win win.
3) I have found my old kettle bell workout DVD, It’s called Extreme Kettlebell Cardio Workout by Keith Weber. I did it for the first time again today, even with a 10 lbs kettlebell it kicked my ass. On Amazon there is now a 2nd and 3rd Extreme Kettlebell workout.
4) I have started running and doing yoga again. A couple days ago I ran up a hill in the woods that I hike a lot. I am quite impressed I was able to jog up it. Also the yoga needs to be ramped up again, I want to be limber to avoid surfing injuries and to get more enjoyment out of life. I am always grumpy when I have aches and pains.
If I was working in a vacuum, I would get up at 5am, learn about penny stocks and trade during the trading hours and then I would go run/ workout/ do yoga at the end of each trading day following my end of day debrief. Afterwards I would continue studying penny stocks/ do homework/ work on my dream business until 9pm and then I would review my penny stocking notes and read for a bit before falling asleep and doing it all over again and on Fridays I would go out on dates with cuties.
I would do two kettlebell workouts, 2 yoga sessions and go for 2 runs/ hikes
But I am not in a vacuum and I loooove to surf too much to stick to a regimented plan like that. I am just being honest right now.
Sometimes the waves are perfect and I’ll be in the water at first light, surf for 5 hours, go make breakfast and chill out for a bit and then surf for another few hours. It’s awesome but I have no idea how my buddy and I ever worked our way up to being able to surf that much in one day. The next day however I am absolutely drained and I know I will not be doing an extreme kettlebell workout, 5-8 hours of surfing is my preferred extreme workout. So in those instances, I am fine with dropping a kettlebell workout in that week and doing yoga the next day.
So I will be doing at least 1 Extreme Kettlebell workout and 1 run per week but I want to do yoga twice a week no matter what because I know it’s what will benefit me the most, even when I am absolutely drained.
This isn’t going to be one of those get fit programs where I make a goal of loosing 15 lbs and I eat a bunch of spinnach and focus on taking huge shits before stepping on the scale. Nah, not this time.
Don’t get me wrong, the dream is to have shredded 6 pack abs at about 170lbs. but shit, winter is coming and I don’t want to be so skinny that I freeze while surfing in cold northern pacific waters.
The goal of this 12 week blitz is consistency in the process. You see, by October 18, 2016 I had worked out, done cardio, yoga, gone surfing, climb and kayaking 169 times since the start of the year. As of October 18, 2017 I had worked out, gone surfing, done cardio, yoga or landscapping/ farming only 106 times. That’s like only 2/3 the amount of physical exercise I had done compared to the previous year.
What’s the difference? Well I was travelling around southeast Asia from November 17th, 2016 to February 14th, 2017 and during that time I spent a lot more time drinking then exercising. I did some yoga on Lombok in Indonesia and in Siem Reap in Cambodia with whom I consider the best teacher I have ever met. When I make my millions I am going to hire him as my personal travelling yoga instructor but that’s a totally ‘nother post.
It seems my sedentary habits followed me home, along with those awesome Burmese cigars.
So yes, the process, that’s the goal. I want to see me logging 6 days of physical exercise each and ever week for the next 12 weeks.
Worst case scenario it’ll look like 2x Extreme Kettlebell workouts, 2x runs/ hikes and 2x yoga sessions.
Best case scenario it’ll be 1x Extreme Kettlebell workout, 1x run/ hike, 2x yoga sessions and 2x surfs.
Either way 6 days of physical exercise a week is the goal.
12 weeks will take me to January 9th, 2018. Which means I will be starting 2018 on the right foot with heaps of momentum following me.
I would also like to build up to using a 25lbs kettlebell for the Extreme Kettlebell Cardio workout but that’s a vanity goal and it’s less important than 6 days of physical exercise a week
The Present Day Ryan
Today, I weighed 171.5 lbs and here are the relaxed, non-flexed progress pictures of my current physical appearance.
Good luck buddy,
See you on the other side.
